2002-11-18 Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 GeForce GPU architecture previously called Omen, NV30 and GeForce 5 shows up including 125 million transistors built with a .13 micron process. Adds floating point graphics supporting up to 128 bit calculations. Runs at 500 MHz using 8 pipelines with one TMU on each (or 4 x 2 as required) and 1 GHz DDR-II 128 bit memory. Performace double that of the GeForce 4, or 100 Jurassic Park dinosaurs at 100 frames per second (or as some witty person put it 10000 dinosaurs/s...). Handles 51 billion floating point operations/second in the pixel shader. Shown at Comdex with cards available late February.
